Making Waves and Memories: The Unger’s Supreme Story

This holiday season at Supreme Boats, we are thankful for our customers, their families, and that they chose our brand for their days on the water.

For the Unger family, boating has become much more than just a weekend pastime—it’s a way of life that brings them closer together, connects them to a welcoming community, and offers the thrill of wake surfing behind their Supreme ZS252. The Unger family have turned weekends on the water into unforgettable family adventures.

The patriarch of the family, John Unger, shared how he first discovered his passion for wake surfing. “A buddy of mine introduced me to it in 2020,” he explained. “Not long after, we found a local group called SurfATL. They’re all about introducing people to wake surfing and growing the local inland surf community, plus organizing ocean surf trips. We spent the summer of ’21 going out with them every other Sunday. I was hooked.”

That same friend bought a boat in 2022, which brought the rest of the Unger family into the mix. “By 2023, we were all in, and it was time to get our own boat,” John said. His wife, Wren, was initially unsure if the whole family would enjoy full days on the water. “But after a summer spent on a friend’s boat, we realized our kids loved it just as much as we did,” she recalled. “That’s when we knew we needed a boat of our own.”

The couple’s search for the perfect boat led them to a demo of a Supreme S240 during the 2023 Waterproof Tour at the Boat Shop on Lake Lanier. John was immediately sold on the Supreme Wave. Then in May of ’24 after a lot of searching and comparing other brands they found their ZS252 in LaGrange, GA. “I’m an engineer, so I like to fine-tune and maximize the performance of everything I own,” he said. “The Supreme ZS252 offers that flexibility while feeling like a high-end boat, but without the high-end price tag.”

Their 12-year-old son, Mason, also loves the ZS252 for its standout features. “The wave is awesome,” he said. “And the ladder for getting in and out of the water is great—especially when we’re hanging out in a cove.” Mason spends almost every weekend wake surfing and perfecting new tricks. “My favorite memory was landing my first 360 on a skim-style board,” he added. Since then, he’s picked up even more tricks on his Pure Juice box, thanks to coaching from his friend at Wake N Lake Lanier.

For Wren, the Supreme ZS252 has far exceeded expectations. “Everyone comments on how beautiful it is,” she shared. “The color and sparkle of the paint, plus the gorgeous interior, always turn heads. And seeing our 6-year-old daughter, Devyn, stand on the board for the first time was unforgettable.”

Boating has truly transformed how the Unger’s spend their time together. “Our weekends now revolve around being on the lake,” John explained. “It’s a chance to unplug, bond as a family, and hang out with our SurfATL, Pull Pro Shop, and Wake N Lake Lanier family.” Wren agreed, adding, “It’s not just our family that has benefited. We’ve met so many amazing people through boating. The community is incredibly welcoming, and being part of the SurfATL Fleet allows us to introduce others to the sport and help them learn to surf.”

As for advice to other families considering a boat purchase, John stressed the importance of trying out different options before making a decision. “Get out on the water with local groups to experience a variety of boats,” he suggested. “That way, you can find what works best for your needs and budget. But I’ll always recommend Supreme. That wave is something special.”

Mason kept it simple: “Do it. Wake surfing is so much fun, and these boats are amazing.”

Wren echoed his enthusiasm, highlighting their positive experience with the Supreme brand. “We’ve received fantastic support from The Boat Shop at Lake Lanier and Supreme,” she said. “There’s not a single ounce of regret. Owning this boat has truly changed our lives for the better.”

Looking ahead, the Unger family have big plans for even more adventures, including dreams of competing in wake surfing events. As John put it, “This boat isn’t just about water sports; it’s about making memories as a family. And that’s priceless.”
